Hand Paddling
Recently I tried hand paddles. Then I decided to step it up, and try webbed gloves. They have less purchase on the water, and it forces you to use your boat more. Then I decide to go all out, and try bare hand surfing, and paddling. I am convinced that bare hand paddling is the purest form of kayaking out there :) Video soon to come.

I have paddled quite a bit bare handed and it's a really great feeling and you really get a feel for the river. I love doing down river paddling bare handed more than playboating, but both are fun. It really makes you learn your edges on your boats and how to get the water to move you where you want to be.
ReplyDeleteThe hardest run i've done bare handed was the SF Payette (staircase). It was a great experience. Boofing is easy without a paddle.
